What our customers say

“The biggest advantage [of gas-powered trucks] is that they are 100 percent fossil-free and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90 percent. And they are economical to own. They are quieter and they show that it is possible to adjust. All types of transport can be carried out with LBG cars.”

“The new 500hp engine from Volvo runs extremely fuel-efficiently even with a heavier load.”

Erik Alfredsson, CEO of Alfredsson Transport

ALFREDSSON TRANSPORT
Based in Norrköping, Sweden, Alfredsson Transport is a family-owned business with approximately 50 trucks, almost half of which are powered by liquid biogas (LBG). Alfredsson has been running Volvo HPDI-equipped trucks since 2018 and will continue to add more to its fleet as an important part of its sustainability initiatives. The company is proud to claim itself as one of Sweden’s most environmentally-friendly transport companies with plans to be completely fossil-free by 2025.

“At Asda we like to think big, start small and scale fast – and that’s precisely what we’ve accomplished with this move to biomethane.”

“I see biogas as the only serious option for short- to medium-term transport decarbonisation of heavy trucks and expect two to three cycles of LNG trucks. The Volvo team has been an amazing partner and our +25 year relationship continues to go from strength to strength. I see Volvo well placed to continue to support our journey to net zero.”

Sean Clifton, senior manager – National Fleets, Asda

ASDA
Founded in the 1960s in Yorkshire, Asda is one of Britain’s leading retailers with an expansive network of supermarkets and petrol filling stations across the UK. With the largest alternative fuel fleet in the UK consisting of all Volvo HPDI-equipped tractors, the supermarket has ambitions to transition its core fleet of just over 980 tractor units from diesel to gas by the end of 2024.

“We unquestionably need affordable heavy-duty hydrogen-fueled trucks to help our customers like Mercadona achieve their transport decarbonization goals. Trucks equipped with HPDI Technologies’ H2 HPDI fuel system are the solution to our needs today; a technology that is affordable and fits our operational needs, powered by hydrogen. We believe that truck manufacturers should offer this type of high efficiency, hydrogen-fueled heavy-duty vehicle.”

Juan J. Sanchez, CEO of Disfrimur

DISFRIMUR SL (Hauling for Mercadona Supermarket)
A Spanish family-owned transport and logistics company, Disfrimur performs refrigerated goods transportation services and is committed to efficient and sustainable transport. In October 2023, Disfirmur carried out a Volvo H2 HPDI-equipped tractor demonstration via a distribution service for Mercadona Supermarket in Madrid, Spain.

“As the first heavy transport hauler in Sweden to be Euro VI compliant, we take emissions reduction very seriously. We are pleased to have participated in this demonstration as it illustrates our commitment to IKEA, and all our customers, to support their transport decarbonization goals.”

“HPDI Technologies’ H2 HPDI fuel system is an affordable and efficient technology because it keeps the current driveline and compression ignition engine platform while delivering the high performance we need at low cost for decarbonization in long-haul trucking.”

Kaj Johansson, president, KAJ Inrikes

“HPDI Technologies’ H2 HPDI technology left us very impressed. Its high efficiency, powerful performance, and the potential of long-range operations is a very attractive solution. Our confidence is bolstered by its foundation on a traditional powertrain, ensuring minimal investment in new workshop facilities. Additionally, the adaptability of the system to biogas is a significant advantage, aligning with our vision of fuel self-sufficiency because we can utilize local biomass and excess electricity, transforming them into fuel for our truck fleet.”

Nicklas Svensson, senior manager at Smålandslogistik

KAJ INRIKES, SMÅLANDSLOGISTIK (Hauling for IKEA)
In December 2023, a successful heavy transport demonstration was completed by key IKEA fleet partners, KAJ Inrikes and Smålandslogistik. The demonstration included a Volvo H2 HPDI-equipped truck hauling a trailer filled with IKEA home-furnishing products in Älmhult, Sweden. KAJ Inrikes is a “green-focused” haulage company, performing transport for IKEA and other key customers in the Älmhult and Jönköping area. Smålandslogistik, a long haulage and distribution company, has identified the environment and decarbonization as important areas where they can contribute meaningful impact through their daily business.

“Having tractors powered by LNG when it’s so abundant here in Alberta, it’s exciting to manage those costs. But of course, there’s a bigger benefit of decarbonizing our fleet and also minimizing our carbon footprint.”

“We want to share our experience with other fleets out there and prove that these tractors are not only going to be very reliable, fuel efficient, save costs but also will bring about a very good driver and customer experience.”

Jim Dimech, Director of Transportation, Linde Canada Inc.

LINDE CANADA, INC.
Linde, an industrial gas and engineering company, offers technologies and services aimed at carbon abatement, early adoption and an accelerated transition to cleaner sources of energy. In 2023, Linde Canada undertook an exclusive pilot with Volvo Trucks North America importing five Volvo FH LNG (liquified natural gas) powered trucks to Canada, all of which are equipped with the HPDI Technologies’ HPDI fuel system. Linde Canada’s intent is to capture the performance, CO2 emission reductions, and other operational benefits of the LNG-powered tractors alongside its diesel-powered trucks in its long-haul operations.
